I graduated this past December with my MS in Accounting. I've been searching the normal search engines such as careerbuilder and indeed. I've also participated in recruiting at the University I graduated at. I'd appreciate any other tips as I have been looking for a job for over a year to no avail. Thanks.
I have been doing basically the same thing as you, and I haven't found work either. I think that it is not that you are doing anything wrong, but rather that the economy has gone sour. Until the recession begins to lessen, I don't think you will have any luck in your job search. But, on an encouraging note, congratulations on your graduation, and just don't let yourself get discouraged. Good luck and keep your spirits up. Good to hear from you.
I truly hope so, Tad. I am just as frustrated as you at the situation. However, I know that a college education can only benefit anyone, and that an accounting degree is an excellent way to increase my chances of getting a good job. I want to thank you again for your reply.

They say we are out of a recession, unfortunately I think the employment situation is going to lag behind a bit longer. I am very optimistic that Q2 we should see some built up demand. Keep moving ahead and don't let the economy be an excuse.
Thanks, AJT, it is great advise, and I intend to follow it. I had not thought about the employment lagging behind the recovery, but it makes sense. I plan to do all I can to keep myself in shape to get a job. Good luck on your job hunt as well.
I have been using general search engines (Careerbuilder, Monster, Indeed) and staffing companies in my area. I live in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area, and I am currently in school for my MS in Accountancy. I have also inquired by calling local CPA Firms and accounting offices to see if there are any internships or entry level positions open since I do not have applicable experience as of yet. I have also looked on the AICPA website for internships in my area, and emailed the ones that are closer to me. I agree that the recession is getting closer to the end, and the job market will be slow but improve over the next few quarters. We just have to hang in there like you said and try other methods to look for a good place to start. My college is online, so I do not have access to employment services except for online postings by the Alumni. The good news is that my unversity is partnering with Careerbuilder for a workshop and seminar next week. I hope to network and possibly find others like myself who are still searching locally to compare methods.
It shounds as if you have really got your act together, Steven. I wish you the best of luck in your job search. I have not used social networking much yet, but plan to. I think you are right in assuming that it helps in the job search. Since I am just starting out in my schooling, I plan to work more on my school and as things ease up a little, then I will work really hard on my job search. It is always good to hear from accounting majors how their job search is going. Good luck in your job search.

I agree Steven, you seem to be doing all the right things. Keep it up. This is another good resource for accounting jobs in Dallas. Good luck in the search, I think things are picking up.
Well i graduated in August 06' and i have use search engines from hotjobs to monster and the list goes on. I have a BBA in Accounting w/ a minor in finance....I have create 6 different resumes and cover letters in order to attract employers...No response at all. I did do an internship prior to my BBA put no one is willing to give an opportunity...and the entry level positions are not entry level when they requiring 2-3 yrs experience..So what happen to the new accounting graduates that are entering the work field???
