TIP OF THE WEEK: If you want them to know you're looking... you need to let them know you're there!

Hello all Accounting and Finance job seekers!

In this tight market, it's especially important to set yourself apart from the others by creating and completing your personal profile.

Just creating a job seeker account isn’t enough. You must add a complete profile, including your work history in order for employers and recruiters to view your confidential information in our database. This will give employers the ability to view your anonymous profile and contact you via email through our system. It is so valuable and beneficial to take the time to do this. We get over 40,000 site visits a month by potential employers and they're mostly looking for quality candidates. If they can't see your complete profile, they won't contact you.

The key thing to remember is that your online profile should make a potential employer WANT to learn more about you I thought I'd include a few tips to make your profile stand out:

1. Make sure your dates add up and always start with your most recent/current position and work your way back as far as your RELEVANT experience goes. If you're applying for a Staff Accountant position, go back as far as your first accounting position. Too many jobs going back too many years is very distracting.

2. Explain any extended periods of unemployment. Extended periods of unemployment aren't necessarily a bad thing, it's just important to be able to account for that time.

3. SPELL CHECK! SPELL CHECK! SPELL CHECK! SPELL CHECK! SPELL CHECK! There is nothing worse to a potential employer to see spelling errors on a resume. Some are very innocent, but those innocent ones show that your attention to detail isn't that great and could impact you getting a call.

4. Keep it short but sweet. Don't leave anything out, but don't go into so much detail that it takes a recruiter 3 hours to read your resume.
